DLJ & Associates, LLC (DLJA) is a Black, female-owned consulting firm with a breadth of experience in providing a full range of general human resource and operational solutions to academic, corporate and nonprofit clients.

The strength of any organization comes from its people – its human resources. DLJA specializes in recognizing each team’s unique culture and customizing our consulting approach to assist your organization in empowering your team members. DLJA’s consultants are certified in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the 360 Leadership Assessment, and the Prosci Change Management System.

Meet Our Team

Deborah Holland


Deborah Holland is the president and founder of DLJ & Associates. Deborah received her master’s degree (MEd) in Counseling Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a certified diversity, equity, and inclusion facilitator and coach.

Before starting her consulting practice, Deborah served as vice president of staffing and employee relations for a global telecommunications company. Deborah has also held various human resource leadership positions with the University of Richmond, DTE Energy, Duquesne Light, and Mellon Bank.

Deborah’s nonprofit management experience includes youth and adult workforce development, and women’s economic and political empowerment.

Anupama Jain


Anupama Jain specializes in cross-sector diversity and inclusion education, with an emphasis on community building, cultural competency, global awareness, and social justice. She earned a Ph.D. in literary and cultural studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001, after which Anu spent more than a decade in higher education conducting original research, teaching varied topics, and supporting diversity initiatives.

Anu’s scholarly affiliations have included Union College in upstate New York, Colby College in Maine, and the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. Since 2011, Anu has focused on collaborative community organizing and public humanities initiatives in Pittsburgh, partnering with diverse local groups, and designing original programming such as Color Me Pgh, Scholars at Large, and 12×12: Connecting Pittsburgh to the World.

Sonia Layne-Gartside


Sonia Layne-Gartside is a results-oriented global consultant, educator, and facilitator in leadership development and change management. Sonia helps professionals become stronger, more effective leaders. She has been developing and implementing customized training and executive education programs for adults in several formats (classroom, online, and blended) for the past 20 years.

Sonia holds a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Management Studies and a Master’s in Education from the University of the West Indies. She holds advanced certification in change management from Prosci® and is also certified as a Master Trainer, Online Instructor, Case Writer, and Instructional Designer.

Liz Foster-Shaner


Liz Foster- Shaner is originally from Northern California. Liz completed her Ph.D. in Theatre Research at the University of Wisconsin– Madison. At UW, Liz taught Theatre for Cultural and Social Awareness and worked with the Office for Diversity and Inclusion to develop training for all graduate assistants across the university.

Currently, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and other artistic and educational organizations, Liz is developing workshops and projects that examine and reimagine our roles and opportunities as active citizens of our local communities and the larger society. She served on the board of Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed, Inc. 2017-2019 and directs Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) Pittsburgh.

Recently, Liz facilitated and co-facilitated workshops and training for the Racial Justice Summit, Creative Conversations at the Union Project, Pittsburgh Inclusive Innovation Week, the Arts Education Collaborative, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the Urban Redevelopment Authority, and the CMU School of Drama.

Allison Lee-Mann


Allison Lee-Mann is an independent human resource and nonprofit consultant with over 30 years of experience. During her career, Allison has served as a senior human resource executive for several corporate and nonprofit organizations in western Pennsylvania.

Allison is a graduate of Duquesne University, and her professional affiliations include the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association (PHRA), and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She is an adjunct professor at the Carnegie Mellon University Heinz College, teaching a course in Human Resources Management in the nonprofit sector.

Allison is experienced in the development and management of human resource programming in the corporate and nonprofit sectors. She specializes in the assessment and development of policies, procedures, and compensation programs.

Allison’s nonprofit management experience includes grant proposal writing and management, human services program management, workforce development, after school programming, and arts and culture.

Jackie Heidelberg


Jackie Heidelberg is president of Human Capital Solutions LLC, a human resource/leadership/training firm that offers a full range of expertise in organizational development, leadership, training, talent management, talent acquisition, and management consulting with clients in for-profit corporations, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations.

Jackie brings over 30 years of senior leadership experience and as a strategic partner to executive leaders. She is known for her innovative human capital initiatives and her ability to conceptualize and drive results from a team-based consultative perspective within a wholesale financial institution, a medical equipment manufacturing/sterilization company, and a health insurance organization.

Jackie was an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College for five years. She taught courses in Strategic Benefits/Compensation and Strategic Human Resources.

Jackie has a B.S. degree in Business Education from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College.

Barbara J. Bass

Technology Consultant

In addition to solving technical issues for DLJ and Associates, Barbara Bass advises and provides assistance on how best to use information technology in achieving clients’ business objectives. Barbara also acts as a virtual assistant to DLJA’s consulting team.

Barbara’s experience includes 18 years advising staff members to use technology efficiently in an educational setting. Her 11 years of corporate experience involved supporting and training staff for a corporate-wide system.

Barbara has a B.S. degree in Business Management with a concentration in Systems Analysis.
